PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING
(p.s…the t-shirts are really cool this year, too!)
Volunteers are a vital component in making the 2020 Earth Day Celebration a success! While there are numerous vendors, exhibitors, entertainers, and activity leaders, they need the support of volunteers to ensure that the day is enjoyable for everyone.
Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 3 (three) hours of volunteering during the course of the the Earth Day event. With this commitment, volunteers will receive a complementary T-shirt to wear during your shift and keep. Volunteers are expected to arrive at least 10 minutes before their shift to check-in at the Volunteer/Information Tent and get their T-shirt. Volunteers are also expected to work for the full duration they have committed to serving. Volunteers are expected to act in a mature and responsible manner, as they represent both the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition and the Town of Woodbury.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO?
Set-up (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
Set-up for the Celebration includes a wide variety of tasks that range from setting up tables and chairs to posting signs and placing trash/recycling cans around the grounds to checking in vendors and helping them find their exhibit space, unloading their cars, and helping them set up their tents and tables.
Runners and Ground Crew (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Runners are needed throughout the celebration and help with a variety of jobs like emptying trash and recycling cans as needed, picking up trash that may end up on the ground, and periodically checking and restocking bathrooms. A runner is a volunteer that is ready and willing to help with just about anything.
Stage Assistants (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Assist with stage transitions between performances on the Main Stage (bands/music) and the Community Stage (activities & demonstrations like yoga, birds of prey presentation, etc). Volunteers will help with moving instruments, configuring chairs or tables, mats, props as needed to meet the performers and presenters needs.
Thisnotthat Recycle Team (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Thisnotthat Recycle Team volunteers will be stationed at the trash and recycling cans as needed throughout the event grounds. Volunteers will help educate visitors on what to put in recycle bins and trash and what can be composted. They will also be ready to answer visitor questions about home recycling. Training materials and flyers will be provided.
Information Ambassadors (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Information Ambassadors will be stationed at key points throughout the event grounds to assist visitors with wayfinding, schedule and general FAQs. Volunteers will have a festival layout map, list of vendors and schedule of activities.
Activities Tent (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM set-up; 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM event)
What Earth Day Celebration would be complete without enriching activities, presentations and arts & crafts? Volunteers are needed to help with set-up and break-down of this area, and to assist with and facilitate activities.
Parking Attendants (11:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Police and cadets will direct traffic, but volunteer parking attendants are needed to assist with welcoming cars, collecting the onsite parking fee, and waving them in the right direction.
Break-down (3:30 PM – 5:00 PM)
Celebration break-down includes removing signs, removing trash cans around the grounds, helping vendors take down their tents and load their cars, and “sweeping” the grounds for stray bits of trash.
